20 km away, in the direction of Siena, in the municipality of Monticiano, it is possible to visit the most striking place in this part of Tuscany: the Abbey of San Galgano, with the Hermitage of Montesiepi, home of the Sword in the rock. Continuing along the road through woods and hills, we reach Massa Marittima, a splendid town, whose cathedral and noble palaces are worth seeing in May and August, the Balestro del Girifalco, one of the most important historical re-enactments in Tuscany. On the way back, you can pass through the villages of Montemassi, with its castle, and Roccastrada, with a splendid panoramic terrace overlooking the hills of Maremma.
