North of Montalcino, on the other hand, is Buonconvento, one of the best-preserved villages in the whole of Italy, with its walls and buildings still intact. A little further north, the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, with its marvellous large cloister, completely frescoed. It is then possible to return to Positano through Murlo and a splendid nature road in the hills and the Merse valley.
